EGYPT
UNCONVENTIONAL WATER SOURCES IN THE HOME OF THE PYRAMIDS

According to the World Economic Forum, “the country currently has around 570 cubic meters of water per person per year. The WHO estimates that when water supplies drop below 500 m 3 per person, the population faces water scarcity, which means that Egypt is currently on the cusp of dropping below the quantity of water that a person needs to lead a healthy, hygienic life”.

Furthermore, Egypt draws almost all its freshwater supply from the Nile which, along with the Amazon, is one of the two longest rivers in the world. But dependence on the river is not sustainable and poses a real threat to the health of this natural source in the medium to long term.

OUR CURRENT CONTRACTS IN EGYPT

Aware of Egypt’s drinking water needs, Almar Water Solutions has entered into a joint venture with Hassan Allam Utilities BV (HAU) to develop infrastructure projects in the country. In less than a year we have already acquired Ridgewood Egypt, a local company that runs roughly 60 desalination assets that serve the tourism and business sectors, ensuring that they can carry out their activities.

The progress of unconventional water sources is essential for Egypt and the country is part of the international trend to build more desalination and reuse infrastructures to ensure safe water supplies.

This new regional platform represents another step towards fulfilling Almar Water Solutions’objective of providing potable water to the municipal and industrial sectors in areas that suffer scarcity, contributing our experience and financial capacity to achieve enhanced water availability throughout the region.

RIDGEWOOD

Most of the Ridgewood Egypt’s plants provide fresh water to the commercial, tourism and industrial sectors, which are dependant on the supply of safe drinking water to ensure their activities.
