The project scheme has not yet been defined – it could be an Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) or Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) project – but the customer has launched the Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) tender process, bids for which must be submitted by the 30 October. In parallel, it is developing the documentation necessary for tendering the project as a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) scheme.

With a surface area of 173 km², the city is located on the Red Sea coast, around 100 kilometres to the north of Jeddah, the nerve centre of Saudi Arabia. It has a large industrial zone, a port, residential areas and a business centre. The city is forecast to develop over the coming years, and there is a real need for water for both human consumption and for the production processes of the industries located there.

King Abdullah Economic City is a consolidated project that is expected to meet future water needs for sustainable growth in the region. Almar has been pre-qualified along with other companies, and is currently working on a bid.
