- The project was recognised for its integrated approach, innovative financing model and contribution to water security in the mining industry.
- The upcoming commissioning of the second SIAM II pipeline will enable the system to soon reach full operational capacity.
Santiago, Chile | March 23, 2026. The Centinela water supply project, developed jointly with Transelec for Antofagasta Minerals, was recognised at ACADES 2026 during the “Water Night” awards ceremony as one of the leading international benchmarks in sustainable water infrastructure.
The recognition highlights the growing importance of integrated solutions, innovative financing structures and long-term collaboration models in ensuring water security for strategic industries.
The project comprises large-scale infrastructure including two 144-kilometre seawater pipelines capable of transporting more than 167,000 m³ per day from Puerto de Michilla to Minera Centinela, located at an altitude of 2,220 metres. With the imminent commissioning of the second pipeline, SIAM II, the system will reach full operational capacity, ensuring a continuous and reliable water supply in the Atacama Desert.
Developed under an 18-year BOOT model and financed through a project finance structure, the initiative represents an investment of approximately US$1.5 billion, consolidating its position as a benchmark for the development of sustainable industrial infrastructure.
The award was received by representatives from Almar Water Solutions, Antofagasta Minerals Group, Transelec and Aguas Esperanza, reflecting the strength of a collaborative approach between industrial and infrastructure partners.
Commenting on the recognition, Carlos Cosín stated “This recognition reflects the value of building strong, long-term partnerships between industrial, financial and technology partners to develop critical infrastructure. Centinela is a clear example of how these collaborations can ensure water security in extreme environments while delivering operational reliability and sustainable value for Minera Centinela.”
Industry Leadership and Participation at ACADES 2026
In parallel, Almar Water Solutions played a prominent role at ACADES 2026. Its CEO, Carlos Cosín, participated in the opening session as part of the panel discussion “Water for Growth: International Perspectives and Country Outlooks”, where participants addressed the sector’s evolution towards a new paradigm focused on security, resilience and long-term value creation.
During his intervention, he highlighted how industries are evolving from traditional models based solely on cost per cubic metre towards approaches that prioritise supply reliability, operational certainty and integrated solutions. He also underlined the critical role of strategic partnerships between industrial, financial and technology stakeholders in developing sustainable infrastructure capable of supporting long-term economic and social growth.
In this context, the company further reinforced its presence at the congress as the official lanyard sponsor, with an exhibition space in the main hall and the active participation of its international team. This involvement underscores Almar Water Solutions’ commitment to advancing sustainable water infrastructure that supports long-term economic and social development.
