Desalination of seawater using reverse osmosis

A Global Challenge
Global water scarcity is becoming increasingly serious. The UN reports that water use has grown more than twice as fast as population over the past century, and demand is expected to rise another 55% by 2050, driven mainly by manufacturing, power generation and domestic consumption. The Middle East faces this pressure most strongly: over 95% of its water supply comes from desalination, representing around 30% of global production. Meeting the needs of fast‑growing populations and economies therefore relies on large‑scale, energy‑intensive water systems that must be delivered more sustainably.
Jameel Environmental Services, part of Abdul Latif Jameel’s Energy and Environmental Services platform, was established to respond to these challenges through integrated solutions across water, energy and the environment.

The Flagship Company
As a flagship company within Jameel Environmental Services, Almar Water Solutions is focused on ensuring sustainable access to clean water for communities and industries worldwide. Established to drive forward Abdul Latif Jameel’s vision for a more sustainable planet, Almar delivers end-to-end water infrastructure and service solutions across the full water cycle.

Proven Experience
Across Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific and Europe — Almar Water Solutions is already participating in major infrastructure projects around the globe.
We will be a recognized leading player in the water sector, able to provide real commercial solutions to the challenges of achieving sustainable development.
Our Scope Beyond Water
Recognizing the interdependence of energy and water, Jameel Environmental Services is actively developing hybrid solutions that integrate renewable energy generation — such as solar and wind — with reverse osmosis desalination. These systems significantly reduce the energy intensity and environmental impact of water production, helping achieve lower carbon footprints and improved operational efficiency.
Next‑generation technologies and services we are exploring
Optimizing how energy is stored and used across water operations to cut intensity and lower costs at scale.
Converting residual streams into clean power — closing the loop between environmental management and energy generation.
Advanced treatment for oil‑contaminated streams, enabling safer reuse and reducing environmental impact for industrial clients.
Integrated services that address complex environmental challenges across entire industrial and municipal value chains.
Through strategic partnerships with global engineering and technology leaders, our ambition is to become a regional authority in waste and water treatment, resource recovery, and sustainable infrastructure development.
A Long-Term Commitment
As part of Abdul Latif Jameel’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Jameel Environmental Services is building a legacy rooted in impact, resilience, and innovation.
The Company is driven by a long‑term vision to deliver real‑world solutions that improve quality of life, support local economies, and ensure water and environmental security for future generations.
