CENTINELA MINING – BRACKISH WATER DESALINATION
The brackish water desalination plant has a capacity of 2,765 meters per day and supplies quality water to the mining client Antofagasta Minerals for its industrial activity in northern Chile. The plant is equipped with reverse osmosis ultrafiltration technology and its expansion has been in operation since 2011.
The equipment receives water from a battery of wells, located 70 km away, which is accumulated in an open-air pool. The treatment system has an initial screening stage with self-cleaning mesh filters. The water then enters an ultrafiltration battery that can supply any of three brackish water reverse osmosis units. The arrangement of the system makes it possible to obtain industrial filtered water, drinking water and demineralized water.
