{"id":5079,"date":"2019-11-18T17:44:38","date_gmt":"2019-11-18T16:44:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/almarwater.com\/financing-non-conventional-water-infrastructures\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T13:21:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T11:21:17","slug":"financing-non-conventional-water-infrastructures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/almarwater.com\/es\/financing-non-conventional-water-infrastructures\/","title":{"rendered":"Financiamiento de infraestructuras de agua no convencionales"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"color: #246798; font-size: 30px;\">FINANCING NON-CONVENTIONAL WATER INFRASTRUCTURES<\/h1>\nLast week, the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/land-water\/events\/ncwsymposium19\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Symposium on the use of non-conventional waters to achieve food security<\/a>\u201d was held, co-organized by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/home\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)<\/a>\u00a0and the Government of Spain, in Casa de Am\u00e9rica in Madrid. Focused on the search for innovative solutions, such as the use of non-conventional water resources, including reclaimed wastewater, desalination, fog harvesting and their associated technologies, the event featured experts from a variety of areas such as water and energy, food security, climate change, regulation and financing.\n\nAlmar Water Solutions was present through Arantxa Menc\u00eda, Global Business Development Manager, who gave a presentation titled \u201d Financing Non Conventional Water Resources\u201d in session 5 \u201cInvestments and financial instruments in a circular economy\u201d. Arantxa, who has led projects in Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and Africa, contributed her knowledge in the development of non-conventional water projects using innovative financing tools such as Public Private Partnerships (PPP) or Project Finance. Thanks to these tools, non-conventional water plants have been built in places where governments or public entities do not have the necessary funds, resulting in a highly positive impact on the citizens who need these resources.\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwater.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UN-Water<\/a>\u00a0estimates indicate that by 2025, 1.8 billion people will be living in regions with absolute water scarcity, and reducing water losses and re-diverting water to water-stressed regions will require large investments and the use of non-conventional waters. But non-conventional water use requires changes in traditional water allocation frameworks, financing structures, water-quality standards, regulation and institutional mandates.\n\nAlmar Water Solutions, a company specialized in the development of non-conventional water infrastructure, has been awarded contracts for two desalination plants in 2019, one in Saudi Arabia and the other in Mombasa, and has acquired a wastewater treatment plant in Bahrain.
